What is Outplacement?
Outplacement is a service offered by employers that helps employees with new career opportunities. This can be because of a redundancy, restructuring or by mutual agreement.
It is not mandatory for employers to offer an outplacement service, according to the Dutch law. It is also not mandatory to accept an outplacement service as an employee.
Transitievergoeding
If you’re made redundant without your fault, for example due to economic reasons, you can get a transitievergoeding or ontslagvergoeding.
This is a fee that you get to help you strenghten your position in the job market. You can use this to start you own company, follow a specific course or make use of an outplacement service.
If you spend this amount on anything non-work related, you will pay income tax. It is really a fee to help you find new work.
The amount of the transitievergoeding depends on the number of years that you’ve been employed at the company, your last salary, your age and the size of the company.
Outplacement Services
An outplacement service focuses on practical career support. Providing you with the tools and resources you need to help you find new work. Think about:
- Your drivers
Of course you’d like to gain insights into your ideal career. How does your ideal company look like? Which skills do you have? A good outplacement service focuses on your strenghts and the value you can bring to companies.
2. The job search and networking
An outplacement service or coach can help you with job searching tips and companies to apply for. A lot of people find work through their network and being referred at companies. You want to work with an outplacement coach that knows the market really well.
3. Your interview materials
Resume, cover letter, Linkedin and maybe your portfolio; all deciding factors wether you will get an interview or not. In outplacement coaching you can expect to get feedback and work on your interview materials
4. Interview practise
Getting invited for an interview is the first step. Now you need to turn this into job offers! An outplacement coach can help you with your interview practise and preperation.

How long does an Outplacement Service takes?
The lenght of an outplacement service depends on different factors:
– Your work experience
– The time it takes to find new work
– Available buget
Generally, an outplacement takes between 3 to 12 months. I offer outplacement services with a lenght of 3, 6 or 9 months.
Costs Outplacement
The costs for an outplacement service vary from € 1800 – € 6000.
The starting price of my NextStep Navigator program is € 1800 for 3 months. For now, I can offer it for this price, because I don’t have a lot of the costs that a lot of outplacement agencies do have.
Your money or your employers money won’t go to the rent of an office, the payment of multiple staff members, marketing costs etc.
